At this point of time in our lives, we are all at least a little undecided on our future and what career we wish to pursue. It is, however, very important for us to consider this because it has a great impact on the choices we make with our education and I believe it is extremely vital that we are exposed to as many careers as possible in the years leading up to university in order for us to realistically understand different jobs and recognise what really interests us. I was extremely grateful when Newstead presented us the opportunity to visit Guys Hospital in Kings College London for a dentistry workshop. I felt it was a great way for us to understand how the profession works as well as an insight into university life.

However, I am sure that all those who came with me felt that this would be a day of lectures from professors and a very focused workshop; our day was quite the opposite. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and realised that it was more than about dentistry, which was completely the opposite of what we expected. As a matter of fact, we learnt more about choosing the right career and really experienced a taster of what it would be like to study in a university environment. It definitely helped me gain insight on what university had to offer and reminded us that life is not set in stone and we must be open to different paths. But most of all, it really showed us that a great big world of opportunities are open to us all.
