After a month of summer holidaying - enjoying the sun, hanging out with friends, drinking at least a large caramel frappuccino from Starbucks every week, going to the beach, visiting an amusement park or summer fairs, and of course countless barbeques with friends and family, the month of August rolls around and with it comes the anticipation and nervousness of getting your exam results be it GCSE’S, AS or A-Level results. For some, it’s a time to smile and relax knowing that time, effort and hard work put into ones studies has finally paid off. For others, results day is the opposite, with tears and uncertainty about the future. Then comes the back to school shopping for the upcoming school year and with it comes excitement. Excitement to meet friends that you never got a chance to meet during the summer holiday, excitement to be moving up another school year and the excitement to learn new concepts.
But the truth is, regardless of the excitement, nervous anticipation, or the dreading of a new school year, every school year comes with its challenges. This may be starting GCSE studies, sending off university applications, writing your personal statement, preparing for entry exams for certain courses as well as juggling classwork and homework. School is stressful, the workload always increases with each new academic year as well as the expectations which also inevitably increase. Before you know it, it doesn’t feel like a new school year anymore because you settle in and you become used to each course load and the teachers expectations, clubs start, the weather changes and everything feels normal again, and summer almost feels like a distant memory.
