The highly anticipated run up to Christmas is always full of lights, carols and Christmas trees. On Sunday the 30th of November, Pratts Bottom lit up their village tree which was accompanied with carols, mulled wine and mince pies. Despite an unfortunate event earlier this year when the top of the tree broke from strong winds, Lesley and Nigel Jones of the fete committee have created a stunning decoration that has been placed on the top of the tree.
This village event has been occurring for 7 years, it is funded yearly by local residents and the fete committee, plus the council provide the electricity for the lights. The village Vicar, Penny Avana opened the event alongside Peter Hudson. The May Queen of 2014 lit up the tree to signify light still shines even if we are in the darkest times of the year. Whilst the event was taking place, children decorated the tree, and hymns were sung out, these included Hark the Herald which commenced the ceremony and Away in a Manger. After the service, locals ventured over to a tinsel covered archway that lead to the village hall where mulled wine and mince pies were served. The money donated by locals will be split between two charities; Foal Farm and St. Christopher’s Hospice.
