In the current season, constant rain as well as flooding is common… especially in Britain.

But in Sidcup, near the Oval, there is a constant annoyance that continuously occurs for those living near, along with those who are just passing by in their cars; this occurrence is across the zebra crossing.

Just from passing by, you can see just how this water can be affecting the roads, and the traffic that uses them. As a large water build up is not good for any motorised vehicle, the water that is exceeding up into the car could then damage it.

With almost 4 inches of drainage water, that hasn’t run away through the drains, the danger of cars and passers-by is prominent in this matter.

This event has been occurring for many years, and has frequently annoyed the locals around the area and along the street. A local, who lives opposite the reoccurring disaster, states, ‘I’m really fed up with it! My garden floods at the front and back of my home. I have been in touch with Bexley council, who have assured me it’s all down to Thames Water Board. It’s their problem; it’s their parts of the drains that are blocked. And I was told on my last chat with them that they are changing contractors, so I can’t contact them at the moment, but I will be able to soon… which I shall do.’

Another who lives just a couple of houses away from the zebra crossing has expressed his feelings towards the issue, ‘I’m afraid it’s jolly annoying. It’s like living surrounded by a moat! Many, many people have come down with clipboards, staring, poking with sticks, but it doesn’t seem to achieve much.’

From what these locals have said, this annoyance is dangerous and is intruding on their lives frequently, yet the council have done nothing about it! This is a dangerous area for passers-by, with the risk of being splashed, as well as them not being able to cross, and for the mechanics of your cars, especially if you’re not careful!

This issue will be followed up by me, as I will be asking the council what they are going to do, and hopefully it will be sorted out soon.
