Among floods of confetti, crowds cheered as the Biggin Hill Christmas lights were switched on by Counsellor Melanie Stevens and Santa himself! Children’s faces were lit up by colourful glow- sticks, laser lights and the excitement brought on by sweets from Santa.

Hosted by the New Life Church, there was a fantastic turnout of over 200 people of all ages gathered together for the Christmas Lights Switch on Celebration. The Business Association fund covers the cost of the lights, with local business and firms supporting the cause, a major supporter being the Biggin Hill Airport Community. The Business Association also funds the Community Christmas tree which is due to be delivered later this week.

The crowds enjoyed Christmas refreshments supplied by Waitrose and were also treated to Christmas Carols sung by Oaklands and Biggin Hill Primary School’s and the Biggin Hill Community Choir. Also performing were soloists Courtney Noakes and Sophie Eagle from Charles Darwin School.

Organiser Bob Wilkinson said “The Lights are an important part of the Biggin Hill community as they bring us all together and everyone can take part. I think the switch on this year has been first rate and it’s excellent to see so many people turn up for this event.”

As Bromley Mayor, Julian Benington said “The first sign of Christmas is the Biggin Hill Lights!” Looking down the Main Road it is clear to see that Biggin Hill has been made festive with the glittering lights, shining brightly; a sure sign that Christmas is on its way!
