It’s no secret that many adults believe that children’s lives are very easy, academic wise. One of the most common accusations is that the current generation have Internet. Yes, having the access to Internet for online educational resources, and the efficiency of researching is very useful. However, many adults are misinformed on how quickly the education system is developing and changing.
Michael Gove, an education secretary, has made even further changes to the education system- which has brought a lot of controversy. The new changes Gove has put into place requires more from the students, than ever before. For example, the new foreign language A- levels are demanding students to speak more ‘spontaneously’ in their foreign language. Many have argued that all three skills; listening, writing and speaking should be tested equally- focussing on just speaking singles out those who may have been better at the other two. For GCSE Mathematics students, the GCSE exam is no longer modular, it is now linear. This means that students have to remember two years’ worth of learning in complex detail for an exam at the end of Year 11, rather than being able to spread out the knowledge they’ve learnt, in exams, throughout Year 10 and 11.
As you can see, slowly but surely, the education system is becoming more difficult for students. So anyone out there, who agreed with the title- do you still think life is easy for children nowadays?
