Gravesend Cycle Lane into oncoming traffic
Echo Square and Wellington Street
If it wasn't bad enough that echo square's only prominent cycle lane is only ten metres long, how about the fact that it leads straight into oncoming cars. It is not only ludicrous but incredibly dangerous not only for cyclists who come from the area but those that are simply enjoying what's left of the roads in this area of Gravesham. Kalon White, a local resident, called the lane "disgusting and appalling" One can presume that the purpose of the lane is so that the local council can tick it off as one of a number of ridiculous attempts at accommodating for cyclists in Gravesend. The road leading off of the roundabout used to be a two way road which offered access to single well road but after this was reversed into a one way road the cycling path has remained in place. Another example of another completely ridiculous cycle path is that of the one at the top of Wellington street in Gravesend. The length of the path is 15 metres and leads directly onto one of the busiest main roads in Gravesend which is Parrock Street. Not only this but the road itself is in desperate need of repair and is currently a danger to cyclists who actually bother using the path. The lack of care and effort put in by the local council really reveals how much they actually care for people who use bikes in Gravesend.
