On Sunday 11 November, the UK celebrates the end of the First World War and mourns those who were lost during it.

Around 40 million died from all across the world, working together to fight for a better life for those after them.

But it finally ended on the 11 November 1918.

So why is Remembrance Day important if it is remembering people who died more than 100 years ago?

It has been 106 years since it ended and during this time other wars have started and some ended, many people killed in these as well.

I think Remembrance Day is important as it is not only honouring the deaths of those who fought and died for our country in the First World War, but also for the people who are suffering right now.

There are so many wars happening right now that deserve remembrance.

The Russian-Ukraine war just passed 1000 days of fighting, almost 3 years, and the Israeli Palestinian war has been going on since 2023.

World War 1 started at 1914 to 1918 beginning because of the assassination of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand by the Nationalist Gavrilo Princip, this with other factors sparked the First World War, with the Great Powers turning against each other.

We remember this war as it was the first war which affected people all around the world and it is important to remember the end of this war as our way of life may not have been the same if it didn’t.

The Ukraine-Russia war fully started in 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine and attacked, now around a million people have died and many injured.

So, even though Remembrance Day has passed we should all still remember the terrible things that have happened and that are happening right now.

And when you do perform the two-minute silence, have a think about the deaths that have affected so many, in these violent wars.
