Help make our community safer with a zebra crossing:

Tubbenden Lane is approximately 0.9 miles long, however, on this long stretch of road, there is not a single zebra crossing.

This needs to be changed.

What is a zebra crossing?

Zebra crossings are marked with broad white stripes across the road where pedestrians have the right of way so vehicles must stop for them if they wish to cross.

Why should Tubbenden Lane have a zebra crossing?

In our community, I frequently see many people walking up and down Tubbenden Lane, which in some places does not have pavement on both sides of the road, which in result means pedestrians must cross the road often.

I believe a way to make this road safer for children, adults and the elderly is to put in zebra crossings.

The place that I think should have a zebra crossing the most is in front of Tubbenden Primary School (shown in image 1) as students regularly cross this area of the road at the beginning and end of school.

This area also attracts quite a crowd of cars as they travel along the road to get to work or pick up/drop off their children at school, especially around 8:20-9:00 and 15:20-15:40.

With the increase in the number of cars at this time it becomes more dangerous to cross the road particularly because, when crossing facing Tubbenden Primary School, you cannot see around the bend of the road (shown in image 2) so it is difficult to judge properly when a car is coming.

I have also heard that other community members have requested to put a zebra crossing in this area but as far as I know they have been unsuccessful with the response.

A zebra crossing in this area will enhance the safety of children, adults and the elderly walking in the area.

Together we can enhance our community's safety by introducing a zebra crossing.
