The Kavanagh Cinema (Herne Bay) will shortly become the first cinema in the south-east to be implementing the option for subtitles during almost EVERY screening!

The cinema is very excited to be announcing its new equipment – specialized ‘WATCHWORD’ glasses, catering specifically towards the hard of hearing.

These glasses display subtitles on the user’s lenses, not only allowing them to select the font, color and the size, but also enabling a completely new experience and opportunity for those usually limited by unfavorable attitudes towards subtitled films.

Robert, one of the managers at the Kavanagh, largely responsible for implicating the new technology, says “Unfortunately, you don’t normally get subtitles for the hard of hearing at 8:00 on a Saturday night because it’s peak cinema time. But with the glasses, it makes no difference!”

Not only will the Kavanagh soon be implementing ‘watchword’ but they also offer a variety of preexisting screenings catering to specific needs.

For example, the beloved Autism screenings which take place on the last Saturday of every month.

Although other cinemas also provide these showings, due to the more ‘compact size’ of the cinema many believe it makes the Kavanagh a ‘safer experience’ and greater hit within the community.

Some features making this experience inclusive include: Viewers can move around more freely, the option to bring their own food, and a special mention to the lack of adverts and reduced volume.

It’s clear to see the great strides this independent cinema is taking to provide the most enjoyable and comfortable experience possible for its customers and to incorporate inclusivity.

So, the whole community can experience and enjoy an outing to the Kavanagh!
