ENTRY is now closed and it’s game on in News Shopper’s football forecasts competition.

Nearly 130 people have entered our Predictions Cup contest vying for the chance to win a fantastic flat-screen TV from Wellingtons Electrical.

Most people have picked Chelsea, Manchester United or Arsenal as their Premier League champions, with a few mavericks optimistically hoping Liverpool or Manchester City will get the title this season.

Further down the list, there is a lot more disparity in people’s guesses for which teams will claim the other divisions and cups.

A few people predicted Martin O’Neill would be the first top-flight manager to leave his job or be sacked. He quit his Aston Villa post this week but no points have been awarded as that question does not apply until after the Premier League kicks off.

It probably won’t be long before another boss departs so that is likely to be the first of the 11 predictions which we’ll be giving a point out for.

We’ll provide progress updates during the season before announcing the final results when all the action is done next May.

One point will be awarded for each correct prediction for the following 10 outcomes: Premier League champions, Championship winners, League One winners, League Two winners, FA Cup winners, Carling Cup winners, Champions League winners, first Premier League manager to leave/lose his job, PFA Player of the Year and top goal-scorer in four English leagues,

Whoever has the most accurate predictions will get a Samsung 19" LCD flat-screen TV with integrated Freeview worth £249.

In the event of a score draw between two or more entrants, the tiebreak question will come into play: Predict where you think Millwall, Palace and Charlton will finish in their respective divisions. Add the numbers of the three league positions up to get a combined total. Whoever gets nearest the actual total will win.

Competition rules:

  • In the event of any disputes the editor’s decision is final.
  • One point will be awarded for each correct prediction made.
  • Our contest will close after all the relevant leagues and competitions have finished. The winner will then be announced on newsshopper.co.uk
