AN UMPIRE from Catford Cyphers Cricket Club has been interviewed by police following an alleged attack on an official from a rival club.
The incident occurred on July 21 during the Kent Cricket League match between Catford Cyphers’ second team and their counterparts from Sidcup CC.
Police were called to the ground in Rubens Street, Catford, but the suspect had fled the scene before their arrival.
The Sidcup official, a man in his 60s, required hospital treatment after suffering facial injuries.
Lewisham police later interviewed a man in his 40s under caution and their inquiries continue.
A spokesman from the Kent Cricket League told News Shopper he couldn’t comment on the case because of the police investigation.
However, he was able to confirm an official from Catford Cyphers has been suspended from officiating indefinitely, although there will be no punishment against the club.
