UNIVERSITY of Greenwich student Husayn Rosowsky's Olympic fencing dream is over after being beaten 15-8 by Mohamed Samandi.

The 21-year-old was competing in his first ever Olympics in the individual foil at the ExCel Centre this morning against 25-year-old Tunisian opponent Samandi.

But Rosowsky’s hopes of progressing through to the next stage of the competition were dealt a huge blow midway through the encounter when he required a spell of treatment on a hamstring injury picked up in traing last week.

And although the Team GB member was able to resume battle with Samandi, he was unable to trouble his more experienced rival and eventually bowed out 15-8.

Rosowsky will be hoping the injury problem he suffered today doesn't prevent him competing in the team event on Sunday.

He said: "I had a hamstring injury and didn't think it would bother me but as soon as I did my first lunge I could feel it.

“It happened about a week ago but I hoped it wouldn't affect me.

"It's just the start though, we have the team event on Sunday. I just hope the injury won't be an issue then."
