RILEYS Rovers met Glenmore Arms A in the South London & Kent Pool Alliance Tier Two play-off for a place in next year’s Elite League with Glenmore finishing victorious 8-4.
James Grant won the first frame for Glenmore in a tight match against Lee Osborn then Alan Enever made it two without taking a shot as Ryan Francis was on a break and dish but went in off after potting the black.
Paul Dawson pulled one back for Rovers but Pankaj Chilkoti and Barry Barham made it 4-1.
Alan Rothwell met Dawson in the first frame of the second set and it was Dawson who triumphed again making the score 4-2. < /p>
After playing well and losing in his first frame Steven Reed didn’t expect a shot after Barry Barham produced a favourable break but he missed his fourth colour and an interesting match ensued.
When Barham gave Reed two visits with just one colour and the black on the table, Reed must have thought the game was his, even though the balls lay in a difficult position but they didn’t run his way and Barham won his second of the night.
Next was a tense affair between Ryan Francis and James Grant which threatened to boil over but Francis took the frame for Rovers before the whistle could blow.
Chilkoti took the next frame against Kevin England which could have gone either way then Paul Thomas took a thin cut on his final yellow ending up on the black to beat Geoff Evans in another close frame.
That made the score 7-4 and Rovers had to win all of the remaining frames to gain promotion and Dawson got them off to a great start winning his third of the night although it wasn’t as easy as it should have been as he rattled the black on a break and dish.
His opponent Alan Enever was on the brink of playing two frames without taking a shot but when Dawson missed the black he made the most of the opportunity and cleared all his colours but he too rattled the black leaving an easy pot for Dawson.
Steven Reed met Barry Barham again and after missing an easy red, Reed thought the game was over as the reds were there for the taking but Barham missed the final red giving Reed a chance.
He plotted a difficult course from yellow to yellow, leaving a tough cut on his final ball which he rattled giving Barham the chance for his third of the night and the match, which he duly took, making the final score 8-4.
