TWO fishy friends have put themselves firmly on the angling map by taking third place in the Korda British Carp Angling Championships.

Barry Payne and Neo Ferrari were making their debut in the 48-hour endurance fishing contest and caught 187lb of carp, 20lb behind the winners.

Neo, from New Eltham, and Barry, from Orpington, take £1,000 from the £10,000 prize pot in what is regarded as the pinnacle in UK carp fishing competition - but it could have been even better.

Barry said: "Being our first competition and up against previous winners we were very happy to get third.

"However, we were disappointed as we led by 70lbs after 24 hours but the weather changed and the fish moved to another part of the lake."

During the marathon, held at Furzton Lake, Milton Keynes, the pair's best catch weighed in at 17lbs.
