Old Dunstonians 19 v 31 Sevenoaks

Pre-season friendly

HAVING beaten Mid-Wives the week before Dunstonians lost their final warm up game to a strong Sevenoaks side from a league above.

Playing down the hill and with a strong wing behind them, Sevenoaks took control of the game for the first 40 minutes scoring three tries but not converting any.

However, it was however not all one way traffic as two 40m runs out of defence by the powerful left-wing Renford Bennett caused Sevenoaks all sorts of problems although both times the Old Ds being unlucky with the final pass when a score should have been made.

At half time and with the Old Ds making several changes to reintroduce some of last year's 1st xv players - Levin and Dayani entered the front row and Sole came on at seven - the second half was to be a different game.

With both the slope and wind in their favour Sevenoaks were pinned deep in their half.

The first Old Ds try was scored by Mike Woodward on the wing after good hands in midfield by Trowler and Speed.

The second was a trade mark break off the back of the scrum by skipper Mott on the half way line led to a pass inside to the supporting Dean Sole, who went under the posts with Luke Speed added the extras.

Sevenoaks added a break away score to increase their lead but this was short lived as a crunching tackle by the big blind side Saunderson on the Sevenoaks centre turned the ball over.

Woodward showed a clean pair of heels from the 10m line and Speed again added the extras.

At 19-24 to Sevenoaks and with the Dunstonians pack now on top the game was there to be won only for a pass to go astray in the midfield and be picked off by the Sevenoaks 15, who went under the posts.

This was a game which should stand the Old Ds in good stead when they open their league season next Saturday away at Tonbridge Judds.
