THE hunt is on for the next generation of cricketers and the MCC is helping to find those stars on our doorstep.
A cricket camp set up at Kent's county ground in Beckenham attracted more than 120 aspiring batsmen and bowlers.
The three-day session was part of the MCC's Spirit of Cricket Challenge, an initiative to encourage primary school children to start playing the game.
On the final day Kent and former England star Martin Saggers was on hand to offer advice and present awards to the best achievers.
These include prizes to children for performance called The Champagne Moment award and for enthusiasm and fair play - The Spirit of Cricket.
John Stephenson, the former England, Hampshire and Essex all-rounder who is now head of the cricket at MCC said: "It was a great camp for all the children involved.
"We receive great support from past and present cricketers and are very grateful to Martin for coming along to help us get the message across."
The challenge was funded by MCC and The Foundation for Sport and the Arts.
