BROMLEY Cricket Club have reached the ECB National Club Final for the first time in their history.

They face either Northumberland or Caythorpe at Lords on September 4 in the Cockspur-sponsored showpiece finale.

In their first semi-final in the cup for 33 years, Bromley club beat St Just of Cornwall by 94 runs.

Victorious skipper James Butterfill said: "I am very proud of all members of the squad, especially those who played today.

"We showed determination and a great skill in defeating a top- class team and I really believe we have a marvelous chance of bringing this prestigious title home to Bromley."

He added: "It will of course be a privilege for us to play at Lords in the final."

Chairman Richard Lane said: "On behalf of all the members of Bromley Cricket Club, I want to express our congratulations to James Butterfill and his squad for their brilliant victory, and for the way in which they achieved it.

"We are all incredibly proud of what they have done and we wish them every success at Lords in the final. We will be there to support them."

The semi-final win was played out in front of a large crowd at Plaistow Lane including a large contingent from St Just - who are on the verge of winning the Cornwall Premier League for the third consecutive year.

On a damp wicket St Just won the toss and put Bromley in to bat first.

After a marvelous start from Nadeem Shahid (58), Nicky Bluett and James Watson put on 80 runs before Bluett was out for 52, allowing Matthew Isaacs to come in to join Watson.

The pair added 105 runs in an unbroken stand with a large number of sixes and fours being hit, especially from Isaacs, and Bromley amassed 256-4 in their allotted 45 overs.

St Just, who amassed substantial scores in their previous rounds of the competition, lost early wickets to good attack from all Bromley's bowlers.

St Just's most successful batsman was David Roberts, formerly of Northants, who scored 83 before being the penultimate man out as St Just collapsed for 162.

The wickets were shared by all of the bowlers but special mention should be made of Tom Mees who took 2-30 with his hostile, accurate and fast bowling.

Medium-paced bowler Isaacs took 3-25 and was voted the man of the match by the umpires, the ECB representatives and competition sponsors Cockspur.

This triumph takes Bromley another step closer to completing a remarkable treble season.

They are currently leading the Shepherd Neame Kent Premier League as well as defending their Evening Standard Challenge Trophy title in a semi-final against Finchley at Plaistow Lane on Sunday starting at 1pm.

The Cockspur Cup final starts at Lords at 11am.
