AFTER a record-breaking season in the rugby union Kent League Two, Old Gravesendians are preparing for life in the top echelon of county rugby, writes John Oxtoby.
Old Gs wiped the floor with everyone last season as they romped to promotion to Kent League One by winning all 16 league games.
They also reached the final of the Kent Vase before losing to last season's Kent League One champions Beccehamians 9-16.
Now they face the giants of Kent League One on a regular basis but they have moulded their pre-season training to not only remain in the league but to win promotion for a second consecutive season to the London leagues.
League fixtures start on September 23 with a home game against Guys and St Thomas's Hospital RFC, purportedly the oldest club in the world.
Old Gs have also been improving the facilities at their clubhouse on Bronte View, Gravesend.
The site now boasts a new weight training room and referees' changing and shower room have been added to the premises and should be available for the start of the season.
A new flat pitch has also been laid and seeded and should be available for use in the new year.
On the coaching front the Kiwi Colin Crow is starting his second full season in charge, bringing stability at an important time.
A club spokesman said: "We are an open club with a wide membership of boys and girls aged from eight years old to 80.
"We run three regular senior rugby sides and have a thriving mini and junior section running teams in all age groups up to under-15s."
