A 16-YEAR-OLD swimming sensation has made another big splash, this time setting records at a national championship meeting.
Xavier Mohammed, a member of Bexley Swimming Club, was one of the stars of the pool in the Swimming Times ASA National Youth and National Championships at Sheffield's Ponds Forge International Sports Centre.
Having already set a new British age-group record of 2mins 4.22secs in winning a gold medal in the men's open 200m individual medley final, Mohammed rewrote the record books again.
The talented teenager stormed to victory in the 15 to 16-year-old 200m backstroke final, setting a British age-group record in a time of 2mins 3.13secs.
Mohammed's swim was also a lifetime best, bettering his previous fastest swim of 2mins 4.68secs.
As if that was not enough, the Lewisham-based phenomenon set a third British age-group recording 4mins 25.5secs in the 400m individual medley.
He said: "I've had an amazing week and I'm really pleased with the way I've been swimming.
"I've been training really hard and my targets were to set British records at this championship. I'm so pleased with how I swam."
Mohammed, who also won a silver medal in the 15 to 16-year-old 200m freestyle, is now set to compete in the inaugural World Youth Championships in Rio De Janeiro.
He said: "Swimming in Sheffield has been a good gauge for me to see how well I'm swimming.
"I think I can go quicker in Brazil and hopefully I can perform when I'm out there. I'm really looking forward to it."
