A YOUNG tennis player from Sidcup is celebrating after winning the doubles of the HSBC Road to Wimbledon competition.
Sarah Wray, 14, teamed up with Maidstone's Gabrielle Paul to defeat number one seeds Freya Christie and Corinne Blythe 6-2, 5-7, 12-10, serving a match point in the final set tie-breaker.
She said: “This is the best experience ever.
“We played really well and our experience of playing together really helped and I am so pleased to have my photo taken with Tim Henman.
“I lost in the semi-finals of the singles, so winning the doubles today against the girl who beat me is a great feeling.”
The tournament is the largest national junior grass court tournament in the country and gives young players from all over the country the opportunity to compete at a local, county and national level.
Contest ambassador Henman said: “Competitions like the HSBC Road to Wimbledon are a fantastic way to help nurture British tennis.”
