A TRIO of Superleague Formula by Sonangol drivers are celebrating their first victory at Brands Hatch after leading a team from the media to victory in a football match with a difference ahead of the series’ inaugural visit to the circuit this weekend.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Craig Dolby, Beijing Guoan racer John Martin and Flamengo star Duncan Tappy joined journalists for a three-part human table football match against a team of Brands Hatch staff.

The game, true to table football, saw all participants tied by the hands to sliding bars across the pitch.

Despite being a friendly event, the drivers could barely hide their competitive streak and spent more time on the floor than kicking a ball and jostling for the best positions!

The opening match was dominated by Superleague FC who claimed a 5-3 win, although Brands Hatch responded in the second encounter to clinch a 6-2 victory.

With one success per team, the overall outcome was decided by a final winner takes all match, the honours for which went to Superleague after Spurs’ Dolby set up the winning shot delivered by series press officer Tom Hornsby.

Dolby said: “That was crazy and really good fun.

“We ended up falling on the floor most of the time, at one point me and Duncan were on the ground more than on our feet but it was a good laugh.

“Having said that, I was shocking.

“Give me a steering wheel any day.”

Beijing Guoan driver John Martin added: “I’m not very good at football.

“I definitely think the skills need to be improved so I’m not going to give up my day job, that’s for sure.”

The trio of Superleague stars will be back on more familiar territory on July 31 and August 1 when they compete for their teams at Superleague Formula’s debut Brands Hatch outing.

The weekend will feature three Superleague outings, including an exciting reverse grid for race two, along with support series including Group C 1980s sports cars.

Tickets for Superleague Formula at Brands Hatch are available from £24 for adults, with free entry for children aged 12 and under.
