BRANDS Hatch is reaching fever pitch ahead of Superleague Formula on the Grand Prix circuit next weekend.
Superleague Formula unites two of the world’s most popular sports in football and motor racing for the fastest event at Brands this season on July 31 and August 1.
It will feature a fleet of 750bhp V12-powered single-seaters bearing the colours of leading international football teams (and Liverpool).
Brands Hatch will feature three Superleague Formula races, the first two of which will last 45 minutes each before the stakes are raised for the super final shootout, in which the top six teams go head-to-head for a sprint dash cash prize.
Leading the home charge is London-based squad Tottenham Hotspur, based less than 30 miles from the West Kingsdown venue.
Driver Craig Dolby has secured two victories and a consistent run of podium finishes this season.
However, a disastrous weekend at Zolder in Belgium last time out means Dolby arrives at Brands trailing standings leader Yelmer Buurman (AC Milan), although only by a slender eight point margin.
Other riders taking part include Virgin F1 reserve driver and reigning Formula Two champion Andy Soucek (Sporting Clube de Portugal) and two ex-F1 pilots in Narain Karthikeyan (PSV Eindhoven) and Robert Doornbos (Corinthians).
Motorsport fans can also look forward to an outstanding programme of support races at Superleague’s Brands Hatch debut, including thundering Group C sports cars from the 1980s.
Other racing action will be provided by the GT Cup Championship and Lotus Cup Europe.
The weekend will also feature family entertainment away from the track, including a free of charge pit lane walkabout on Sunday morning.
Tickets for Superleague Formula by Sonangol at Brands Hatch on July 31 and August 1 August are now on sale from £24 for adults.
Entry is free for children aged 12 and under.
