TEN teams battled it out for a gold medal in Gravesham’s first ever big seven petanque competition.
The teams were raring to go as they arrived at the Gravesend Rugby Club on Tuesday eager to learn more about a game most likely to be played in the garden, on a beach or on holiday in France.
GRFC’s petanque section organised the contest, in which every team got to play three games.
After a brief demonstration of the rules and how the boule would move on different surfaces, the games began.
The Jacks finally emerged triumphant having won all of their games with a score tally of 33 points to six and were presented with gold medals by the mayor of Gravesham.
Runners-up were the Chain Gang (33-23) ahead of JJ’s Castle in third.
