DEAN Stoneman was penalised by the race stewards after clashing with championship leader Jolyon Palmer during the second F2 race at Brands Hatch on Sunday.

After hearing from both competitors and checking all available evidences, the stewards determined that a breach of the regulations had been committed by Stoneman.

The Southampton-based driver was adjudged to have caused a collision with another car after both he and Palmer went side-by-side into Paddock Hill Bend on lap four.

Both cars touched wheels and Palmer was fired off into the gravel and out of the race.

The stewards decided the incident warranted a drive through penalty, which was converted into a 20 second post race penalty.

The final result relegates Stoneman down to 13th place and out of the points paying positions.

Palmer re-inherits the overall standings lead, five points ahead of Stoneman.

Will Bratt was promoted to third position in the race, his third podium of the season so far.

Nicola De Marco, Sergey Afanasiev, Mihai Marinescu, Armaan Ebrahim, Jack Clarke and Ivan Samarin all improved their points tally following the stewards’ decision, while Benjamin Lariche scored the final point after being promoted to tenth.
