HAYES Tennis Club held its annual finals day on Saturday when members, family and friends enjoyed an exciting afternoon of tennis.
Karl Wimble beat Simon Ward 6-2, 6-4 in the men’s singles, while Catherine Shepherd defeated Sally Hills 6-4, 6-2 in the ladies’ event.
Wimble teamed up with Phil Jopson to see off the challenge of Steve Race and Barry Giles in the men’s doubles 6-4, 6-4.
Shepherd was also back in action in the ladies’ doubles where she partnered Hills to come from behind and beat Sandra Carpenter and Janet Ham 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
There was a hat-trick of honours for Shepherd when she and Ward overcame Alan Brewer and Janet Alsop 6-4, 6-3 in the mixed doubles.
John Beagley beat Marcus Elwes 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 in the men’s plate before the afternoon finished with a handicap tournament, with Simon Ward beating his father Peter to claim the crown.
