KENT Exiles had a tough and dissapointing day at the office as they fell to their sixth defeat of the season against Peterborough Saxons.
In a game which was close throughout, the Saxons struck first, taking a 7-0 lead in the opening half.
Mistakes haunted the Exiles' game as Rob Lewis, Sean Starwind and Jon Miller all dropped costly passes, while the refereeing crew called a crucial fourth down play short of the first down.
Peterborough Saxons saw the threat from the Exiles and put together a time consuming drive in the fourth quarter, which ended with a score and a 13-0 lead.
More importantly, it left the Exiles with only two minutes left.
This seemed to finally spur Kent's offence into action as quarterback Zac Ritchie hit Miller with a quick pass before then hitting Starwind in stride for the score to make it 13-7.
But this left only 60 seconds to rescue something from the game and when the onside kick was recovered by the Saxons, it allowed them to run down the clock and secure victory.
Following the defeat, Kent Exiles coach Dave Pester was left dissapointed.
He said: "We had chances to take control of the game today but mistakes haunted our offence.
"Defensively we were strong but we need to make improvements also.
"We now know what we need to do next week against the Mavericks and what is likely to happen if we don't win."
Kent Exiles now face a relegation deciding match against the East Kent Mavericks at Crockenhill this weekend, with both teams looking to secure bragging rights in the county, as well as avoiding relegation.
