THE inaugural Shooters Hill mini rugby tag rugby festival took place last month, with eight schools in Lewisham and Greenwich boroughs taking part.
More than 170 children took part on the day, providing 12 teams which were split up into two groups.
The teams were took part in a round-robin pool of matches, which eventually concluded with Plate, Shield and Cup competitions.
All of the squads comprised a mixture of boys and girls and each game was played in a healthy spirit with some outstanding young talent on show.
After three hours of pool games, the eventual winners of the Cup were All Saints A, who defeated Christchurch B in the final. St Saviours A were the Shield winners, narrowly beating John Ball School, while St Saviours B secured the Plate.
A number of individual awards were presented after the tournament, including the fair play award which was shared by the Invicta A and B teams.
Best defence went to Fergus Halford of All Saints B, the best try went to Chloe Grewal of Christchurch A, while the best effort award went to Josh Richards of Kidbrooke Park Primary School.
Following the success of the mini tag festival, Shooters Hill RFC will be starting its minis section in September and all children under 11 are welcome to take part in this exciting new venture.
