OLIVER Bryant dominated the weekends second world sportscar masters race on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit on Bank Holiday Monday.
He won by more than 25 seconds from Steve Tandy in second place, with Richard Meins placed third.
There was early drama as pole sitter and the previous day’s winner Richard Evans, driving an Abarth PA01, spun out at Paddock Hill Bend on the first lap, with what was later revealed to be a broken gear lever, pitting into retirement shortly after.
This elevated Bryant to the front where he would stay for the remainder of the race.
His lead at the end of the first lap was almost two-and-a-half seconds, and was over 10 seconds ahead after five laps, setting a string of fastest laps in the early stages.
With such an advantage, Bryant was able to ease off slightly and cruise to the flag almost 25 seconds ahead of the battling Lola T70s of Tandy and Meins.
Roger Wills, driving a McLaren M1 and competing in his fifth race of the day, looked set to challenge the top three, at some stages lapping quicker than everyone bar the top two.
But he was unable to keep up the challenge and settled for fourth place.
Tandy and Meins continued their on track battling from the previous day and had an entertaining scrap in the final stages, separated by less than half a second with five laps remaining.
With two to go, and Meins set to mount a challenge, they encountered traffic, enabling Tandy to secure second place.
Meanwhile, Leo Voyazides who started the race from the 11th row of the grid in his Lola T70 had a storming drive, rising to fifth by the chequered flag.
Andrew Middleton was an early retirement pitting on lap five with a gearbox problem, while Richard Lynn retired from seventh on lap 15.
Jon Finnemore’s Lola T70 finished sixth, Bob Houghton’s Lola T210 seventh, with Tim Cousins’ Chevron B23 eighth.
Stephen Doyle’s Lola T212 and Roberto Farneti’s Chevron B16 rounded out the top 10.
Meanwhile, John Grant has flown to hospital by air ambulance earlier in the day after crashing in the interseries race at Paddock Hill Bend.
Several fire engines were called to help cut Grant free from his McLaren M8C car and he sustained two broken legs, broken ribs and minor burns to his arm.
