A PAIR of young fighters from Keddles ABC in St Mary’s Cray put on impressive displays for the club in its first ever amateur boxing show.

The open competition was being staged by the famous Fitzroy Lodge club which produced David Hay at Earlsfield BC in Wandsworth.

Rory Young and Josh Smith were the first boxers out from Keddles and both are coached by Eddie Lam and Nik Sivyer.

Smith, 15, opened the show in an exhibition bout.

Christening a new black and gold kit, he boxed well on his first time between the ropes and more than held his own, displaying a real passion for the sport and a lot of promise for the future.

Young, 17, showed everyone he meant business by causing a minor upset when he went on to beat a fighter from the host club.

At the end of the three two-minute rounds, Young’s hand was raised high as the winner, much to the delight of the Keddles contingent in the crowd.

Keddle’s Gym, predominately known for its muay thai boxing, was being represented at amateur boxing level for the very first time, which made it all the more extraordinary.

Junior training sessions are run at the club every Monday and Wednesday evening between 5.30pm and 7.00pm, with adult sessions taking place between 7pm and 8.30pm.
