FOUR students from Grand Master Frank Massar’s martial arts school in Plumstead enjoyed gold medal success in Europe’s biggest kicking and sparring competition at the NEC Birmingham.
Three of the four winners are brothers, making it a day to remember for the Skinner family from Plumstead.
Eldest of the trio is 30-year-old Craig, who produced 178 roundhouse kicks in one minute in the middleweight sparring and kicking division.
Craig has been training for 23 years and has won British title in sparring, the southern area crown twice and London Open three times.
Jared Skinner, 27, completed 187 roundhouse kicks in one minute in the welterweight division.
He has also won British title, the southern area crown twice and the London Open twice.
Youngest of the brothers competing was 25-year-old Daniel, who made 186 roundhouse kicks in the lightweight division.
He was the junior British champion and two-time London Open champion.
But it wasn’t the end of the family success at the event as brother in law Steven West, 28, completed 175 roundhouse kicks in the light heavyweight division.
Massar said: “Taekwondo and martial arts gave them a step towards the right direction, opening a door to a whole new path which has kept them out of trouble and taught them discipline and respect.
“They are all family men and their children have all now started training, following in their footsteps.
“Today they help run the Plumstead class and are excellent role models for young people.”
Massar’s taekwondo and martial arts association has a history of producing fighters and champions who have won titles at home and abroad.
Grand Master Massar and his team of black belt instructors teach at the Warehouse Sports and Performing Arts Centre in Speranza Street, Plumstead, on Thursday evenings between 7.30pm and 9.30pm.
