SIX members of Dartford Harriers competed at Ashford’s Julie Rose Stadium in the southern counties track & field championships.
As well as the incentive of medals, this was also a chance to impress ahead of next month’s English Schools championships in Birmingham.
The performance of the weekend came from 14-year-old Gemma Brown with a gold medal in the discus.
Her throw of 35.43m, a personal best and an AAA grade one performance, places her at number two in the UK rankings, and was a personal best (pb) and an AAA Grade 1 performance.
It was also way over the English Schools (ES) qualifying standard of 27m.
Harriers’ U17 athlete Natalie Hickmott claimed silver in the 300m final in an AAA grade one time of 40.82s, also an ES qualification.
Robert Hammond’s bronze medal in the U17 long jump with a leap of 6.39m was only one centimetre outside the ES standard, but was an AAA grade one distance.
Samantha Brown, sister of Gemma, was fourth in the U17 300m hurdles final in a pb of 44.94s, breaking the 1988 club record in the process, and also an ES qualifier and AAA grade one.
She was eighth in the 80m hurdles final in 12.79s.
William Dellow finished fourth in the U15 boys’ 200m final in 24.97s despite torrential rain.
Alex Bell was fifth in the U17 men’s 200m final in 23.2s after finishing second in the heat with a time of 23.10s.
