ORPINGTON Tennis has just resurfaced one of its old shale courts with European clay.
This makes Orpington Tennis the only club in Kent to have a true European clay court as played on at Roland Garros, the home of the French Open.
The club are also preparing a second old shale court to lay another clay court.
Orpington Tennis was started in April 2009 by Heath Anthony.
The club is situated in the grounds of the Westcombe Park Rugby Club in Goddington Lane, Orpington, and has attracted many of Kent’s top juniors to train at the site.
Anthony said: “An international tennis federation statistic showed recently 80 per cent of the world’s top 100 players were trained from a young age on clay courts.
“This is why at Orpington Tennis we felt it so important to start our kids of the right way.”
Orpington Tennis offers tennis coaching for all ages and abilities and is currently offering a free three-week adult introduction to tennis course.
