A PAIR of youngsters from West Wickham have been selected to take part in once-in-a-lifetime tennis training session with Tim Henman at Wimbledon.

St David’s College pupil Matthew Vaz and Oak Lodge Primary School pupil Harvey Conway, both aged nine, were among 60 children who took part in the Kent regional heat of the Robinsons 75 kids for 75 years competition.

It took place at the Appeti Tennis Centre in Canterbury on May 10 where Wimbledon head coach Dan Bloxham was on hand to decide who would go through to the national final on May 31.

The boys showed great passion and skill at the regional heat by rising to challenges set by Bloxham and successfully completing a series of testing tennis activities.

Bloxham said: “The Robinsons 75 kids for 75 years campaign provides youngsters with a fantastic opportunity to get involved with this iconic sport.

“I am excited to be involved in this initiative which aims to nurture talent and provide a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a budding star to train at Wimbledon.”

The pair will now get to meet Henman and take part in a tennis training camp at the home of British tennis.

One of the final 75 will then be chosen by Bloxham and Henman as the overall winner who will go on to win the big prize, which includes expert one-on-one coaching and a tailored tennis coaching programme from Bloxham.

It will also include a travel bursary for transport to and from the training session, which will take place on the iconic courts of the All England tennis club, as well as a three-month membership to a tennis club.
