GRAVESHAM Fencing Club continued their successful season with Joe Joyner taking the bronze medal in the U16 boys’ epee at the British youth fencing championships in Sheffield.
In his first year competing at national level, the Dartford youngster took the competition by storm with victories in all five bouts in the first round followed by wins in the direct elimination rounds.
He progressed to the semi final where he was unlucky to be beaten by one hit, losing 15-14.
The result gives Joyner direct entry to the British youth fencing championships next season.
Four other fencers represented Gravesham Fencing Club at the finals.
Olivia Dove placed 33rd in the U16 foil and 38th in the U16 epee, Thomas Golby claimed 35th in U16 foil, Jo Knights took 20th in the U18 girls’ foil and Cameron Prior came 12th in the U14 epee.
