A SWIMMING club is celebrating a successful start to the year after coming out on top in two major competitions, writes Alison White.
Beckenham Swimming Club, based at The Spa, Beckenham, won the top club trophy at the Brighton Open Gala on January 7 and January 8.
The club's swimmers then won the first round of the Whitehorse League, coming first in 14 of the 17 relays.
The Whitehorse League is an annual competition held over six rounds between Croydon Amphibian, Eltham Stingrays and Bromley, Erith, and Beckenham swimming clubs.
Head Coach Tony Beckley said: "This is a terrific start to 2006.
"We had some great performances at both events and many from our youngest swimming club members."
He added: "We're now looking forward to the Kent County Championships in February and March."
