Westcombe 65 v 19 Reading
Rugby Union National League Three
WESTCOMBE Park cruised to their ninth win of the season by demoliting Reading, writes Michael Beese.
Combe scored a mammoth 10 tries to Reading's three and climbed to fifth in the league in the process.
The hosts opened the scoring after seven minutes with a penalty from fly-half James Whittingham and then on 12 minutes the lead was extended by Niki Davies' unconverted try.
Tom Hayman scored between the posts and Whittingham converted to make the score 15-0.
Scores were coming thick and fast and on 31 minutes prop Matthys Eksteen sprinted home from 25 metres and Whittingham's superb conversion across the breeze compounded Reading's misery.
Then the referee awarded Combe a penalty-try and Whittingham converted.
After the break Davies started the move which ended with Hayman strolling over the line to leave Whittingham an easy conversion.
Combe's fifth try followed straight afterwards through Rupert Chitty's unconverted effort.
Reading then replied with two tries but this only served to re-galvanise the hosts and prop Ben McKinnell duly touched down and Whittingham converted.
Sam Greenaway added Combe's eighth try before Reading grabbed their final score of the day.
Hayman completed his hat-trick of tries before Greenaway scored a converted try to finish the comprehensive rout.
