Sidcup 21 v 19 Gosport and Fareham
Rugby Union London 2 South League
SIDCUP picked up a valuable two points in the bottom-of-the-table clash against Gosport and Fareham.
The hosts saw the return of some old faces with Richard Leamon reclaiming his place at scrum-half and Steve Hancox at blind-side flanker.
In a close match, with both teams retaining long spells of possession, Sidcup were the first to put points on the board through a 12th-minute penalty kicked by Richard Pilgrim.
Things continued to look good for the home side when no. 8 Mark Whitford scored an unconverted try six minutes later.
Soon after Gosport and Fareham finally put a spell of possession to good use with their first try of the game from Ben Wales.
Then, just before half-time, following a 50 metre dash Andy Vance put the visitors in front.
Sidcup's Pilgrim responded with a penalty kick soon after making the score 11-12 to the visitors at the break.
Gosport and Fareham continued to pressure Sidcup in the second half with another converted score, this time by Simon Burnes.
However, Pilgrim responded again after a mistake from the visitors which led to another three points on the board.
The final points of the match came from Pilgrim again who made up for his final penalty attempt hitting the post by catching the rebound and running through to score a well-earned try.
He converted his own score making the final score 21-19 to Sidcup.
Captain Danny Mizen said: "Champagne rugby it was not but hard work and guile earned us the win we deserved."
