BBHC 1 v 3 Burnt Ash
Kent Sussex Hockey League
THIS was Burnt Ash's first league win over neighbours and rivals since their promotion to the Kent Sussex League last season.
In the first meeting Ash squandered a two-goal lead but things have changed.
The arrival of South African international Justine King as coach with his tactical ability has made a big difference.
This, coupled with new boy Joe Baumont's guile and inspirational play from Mike Gillett, opened the way for Ash's good result.
The first 10 minutes were hard-fought with neither side able to get the upper hand but as the half continued Burnt Ash started to pass the ball through midfield and gain the advantage.
The visitors duly opened the scoring with a fine finish from Gillett following a sweeping passing move.
More pressure followed and from a short corner Chris Waight made it 2-0 at half-time.
The hosts started the second half strongly but resilient defending gradually gave Burnt Ash the upper hand although BBHC made the game interesting by scoring on the counter-attack.
However, Waight scored a cracking second goal following a defence splitting pass from new-boy Beaumont.
From then on Burnt Ash looked unlikely to lose closing the game down to finish comfortable winners.
