Westcombe Park 26 v 17 Bracknell
Rugby Union National League Three
WESTCOMBE Park showed no mercy as they inflicted on the visitors their 10th defeat in 11 league matches.
Bracknell have enjoyed the heady heights of National Leagues One and Two and are a quality side despite dropping away in past seasons.
So it was not all plain sailing as Combe almost threw away the 23 points they had accumalated in a one-way first half and only scored the final and decisive three points with the last kick of the match.
The first score of the day was an unconverted try on the left flank by Chris Lewis and while Sam Barnett missed the kick he was successful five minutes later when Combe were awarded a penalty.
Mattys Ekseen increased the home side's lead before Sebastian Beoti got Bracknell off the mark with a penalty after Combe were adjudged to have gone offside.
It was some moments before Combe's normal service was resumed and following good work from the forwards, scrum-half Alex Parfitt scored an unconverted try.
Minutes later the No 8 Tom Hayman used his powerful frame to score another try and the half ended 23-3.
The second half started in Combe's favour although after 10 minutes they entered a spell which saw them repeatedly lose possession.
Taking full advantage, Bracknell's Matthew Tipper went over and Beoti kicked the extra points.
Bracknell were keeping the pressure on as Combe were continually penalised and it was no surprise when Beoti scored his first try and then converted it to bring the visitors to within six points of their hosts.
After Beoti's double Bracknell found themselves on the back foot and giving away a series of penalties against which they defended stoutly.
But with time fast running out the match reached the point where once the ball went dead it was over and so Combe opted for a drop-kick which deprived Bracknell of a bonus point and sealed the win.
