Blackheath 25 v 0 Harlequins
A CENTURY ago the touring All Blacks team played Blackheath at the Rectory Field and the game was played in "dull and dreary conditions", writes James Dennison.
The weather 100 years later has not improved much but the conditions seemed to be enjoyed by the Blackheath forwards who, devoid of sunlight, instead basked under the spotlight of attention by scoring all five of the game's tries.
Flanker Helena Train got her name on the score sheet twice - once through good support play when the ball was off-loaded to her from five metres out and the other using quick reactions to steal possession as Quins fumbled a line-out.
Claire Revell at no.8 also got two tries - the first at the heart of a rolling maul and then as the beneficiary at the base of a pushover scrum in the last quarter of the match.
Hooker Mandi Brunett stealthily evaded a couple of tackles to score as well despite having picked up a shoulder injury earlier in the game.
The Blackheath backs also contributed well to advance past the gain line throughout the game.
Lynn Hunynh at fly-half marshalled the play well supported by lacerating runs from Elaine Jaxon, Genevieve Bisset and Sarah Wilson.
Resolute tackling also ensured Quins could not punch any significant holes in the hosts' defence.
Blackheath have now won all six of their games this season.
