RACING Green Motorsport team from Bromley is celebrating a successful year in the driving seat.

Frontman Rodney Green, 24, had never raced a car until he entered the sport in 2003 but now he has been crowned the British Rallycross Champion among several other prestigious titles.

Following the success of last year when Green won the Clubmans Stock Hatch championship in his Peugeot 205, the team wanted to push even harder this year with new sponsors, new ambitions and a new car.

The team ran a Citroen Saxo VTR in the Stock Hatch category and Rodney entered into both the Clubman's championship and the more competitive British Rallycross Drivers Association (BRDA) championship.

This highly-rated championship is backed by the Motor Sports Association and Rodney (above) was on a mission from the start to clinch its title.

The season saw the team race all over the British Isles alongside the other classes of car from the junior minis to the mighty supercars which are so fast they out accelerate a Formula One car.

Over the season all the Rallycross drivers compete with each other for the British Rallycross Driver's Association overall title which is awarded to the highest scoring driver from any class.

Great teamwork and spectacular driving meant Rodney was ahead of the competition for the entire season, closely followed by his main rival engine builder Julian Godfrey.

At the end of the penultimate round at Lydden Hill, Kent, Rodney had already secured the BRDA Stock Hatch title and even more impressively the overall driver title no one could catch him on points after so many first places.

But celebrations were held off until after the final round at Croft circuit, North Yorkshire, where Rodney ended the season winning the Clubman's title for the second year running as well as clinching the Clubman's overall title by being the driver with the most points.

He said: "Every year I push myself even harder than the last and this year I set my targets on winning the lot.

"I knew it would be a challenge but was confident in my driving and the team around me.

"It was a lot of pressure to put on ourselves but it has all paid off and now we can really celebrate."

The 2006 Rallycross season strarts in April and Rodney will return with the goal of getting more sponsorship so he can buy a new car for 2007.

Rodney is focussed on climbing the ranks of British Motorsport as quickly as possible.

He said: "I'm committed to Rallycross and will stay in the sport for the foreseeable future but I'd love to try my hand at other forms of motorsport too."

Rallycross is gaining a media profile in the world of motorsport with races shown on Channel 5 this year.

To watch Rodney defend his British title join the team at Lydden Hill, Kent, for the first round of the season in April next year.
