Burnt Ash 3 v 1 Folkestone
South Hockey League
BURNT Ash hockey club won their second consecutive league game with a superb win over much-fancied Folkestone.
In the opening 10 minutes both sides struggled to keep possession but soon Burnt Ash started to move the ball around the pitch confidently.
Midway through the half, following good work from Dominic Flannery, Chris Waight scored with a neat flick on the rebound from a short corner.
The half finished 1-0 with both sides creating chances they were unable to convert.
Burnt Ash pressed in the second half intent on increasing their lead and did so when Mike Gillett scored from a short corner.
As has been the case in previous games Ash, having got into a good position, started making mistakes and conceded a goal on the rebound following a fine save from Ian Barber.
However, Burnt Ash increased their lead with a scorching effort from Mike Odds to make it 3-1 and thereafter Ash finished the game comfortably.
It was a good team performance and a deserved victory which sees Burnt Ash climb to ninth in the league.
