THE Brazilian judo team will be joining the British squad at the British judo performance institute in Dartford for a four-day training camp later this month.

With the London 2012 Olympics in sight and the successful Rio 2016 Olympic bid, the two host nations will be using their unique relationship to train ahead of the German Grand Prix on February 20 and February 21.

The relationship has developed since 2008 when the two head coaches, Britain’s Patrick Roux and Brazil’s Ney Wilson Da Silva, met at the junior world championships.

Both saw the potential of a structured partnership and will continue to welcome each other at various events and training camps.

Last year the British squad was welcomed by the Brazilian Judo Federation with the financial support of their national government and will return again in March.

The Brazilian team cemented their reputation as one of the strongest judo nations in the world in Paris last weekend at the first grand slam of the year, where they finished sixth in the medal table.

Renowned for their technical strength in groundwork, this is one of many assets the team will bring to the camp.

Taking to the mat will be nearly 40 Brits, including 2008 Paralympic bronze medallist Sam Ingram, 2006 junior world medallist Sally Conway (-70kg), world medallist Karina Bryant (+78kg) and former European champion Sarah Clark (-63kg).

Some of the guest judoka will include Beijing and Athens Olympic bronze medallist Leandro Guilheiro (-81kg), Beijing Olympic bronze medallist Ketleyn Quadros (-57kg) and 2009 world championship bronze medallist Mariana Silva (-63kg).
