ATHLETES from the News Shopper region took on the best in the country at the recent London Indoor Games at Lee Valley Athletics Centre.
Following on from last year’s inaugural meeting which proved such a success in the athletics community, the multi-event competition was extended from one day to two days to cater for the growing demand.
More than 900 male and female athletes entered, some travelling from as far as Holland, Poland, the Channel Islands and Ireland.
Highlights included Kent Athletics Club’s Matthew Burton winning the men’s long jump, Blackheath & Bromley’s Jermaine Olasan winning the U20s men’s long jump and club colleague Sabine Efiannayi winning the women’s shot putt.
Men’s winners:
M60 - U17 David Bolarinwa, Cambridge Harriers, 7.02s; M200 U17 - David Bolarinwa, Cambridge Harriers, 22.44s; Long jump, Matthew Burton, Kent AC, 7.63m; U20 long jump, Jermaine Olasan, Blackheath & Bromley AC, 7.09m.
Women’s winners:
W800 - U17, Lucy Hickmott, Dartford Harriers, 2m27.20s; Shot putt, Sabine Efiannayi, Blackheath & Bromley AC, 12.15m.
