Greenwich Admirals has sealed its position at the head of rugby league youth development in London, with the news that nine of its outstanding young players have been chosen to become members of the London Broncos junior academy.
The talented youngsters, who have been fast-tracked into the professional club's youth set-up are, Joe Brown, Tony Chubb, Irvin Greenwood, Louis McCarthy-Scarsbrook, Matt Oliver, Ben Wadsworth, Glenn Wadsworth, Dave Williams and Michael Worrincy.
Nine representatives out of 27 is far in advance of any other club. The next most successful side was St Albans Centurions and South London Storm with four each.
Greenwich Admirals' youth development officer Alan Bacon said: "This is an amazing success for the our youth sides and a tremendous credit to the lads that have been chosen.
"They have all worked extremely hard to get to this stage and thoroughly deserve this honour. It shows what a production line of talent we are developing here in south-east London and long may it continue.
"It is also a real boost for the talented young players we have here at the moment, who can now see there is a real pathway through to Broncos academy standard and to the coaches who can see the lads progressing after all the hard work they have put in."
The squad is likely to increase in size as the London junior rugby league season progresses so there is a possibility even more Admirals youngsters will be invited to join.
Phil Jones, Broncos' academy head coach, said: "The last two months training has given my staff plenty of time to watch and assess players. We have looked at their skills, game knowledge, size, pace, agility and most importantly, their desire and enthusiasm to learn new skills and adapt as a team. I think all players we have selected reflect these core attributes."
The Broncos academy squad also includes some new faces who have made the switch from rugby union clubs, including London Irish, Bedford and Sutton. The squad is to take part in a number of friendlies in preparation for the season, which starts on April 4 away to Halifax.
