WITH the 2012 Olympics just around the corner, a small group of coaches from Blackheath & Bromley Harriers AC have created an initiative to introduce and promote athletics in the community.
The 'Athletics in the Park' initiative will commence on July 30 and run until August 30, with sessions taking place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings.
Six parks in the borough of Bromley will host the sessions, including Biggin Hill Recreation Ground, Petts Wood Recreation Ground and Croydon Road Recreation Ground.
The aim of the initiative is to provide free 90 minute taster sessions in parks for children aged between eight and 12, offering them a chance to experience most skills and events associated with athletics, including runs, jumps, and throws.
Following its success within Bromley, the 'Athletics in the Park' initiative aims to expand next summer to incorporate more boroughs, further spreading the word of athletics on the road to London 2012.
If you or your child are interested in the initiative, or for more information, call Rachel Blackie on 07738 820598 or Lauren Blackie on 07891 562411.
