Old Dunstonian Ladies 29-0 Beckenham Ladies

THE Old Dunstonian Ladies returned to winning ways with a bang as they defeated neighbouring rivals Beckenham Ladies comprehensively.

It was a match played at a fast pace and right from the kick-off, Dunstonians signalled their intent not to be haunted by their previous match by coming out strongly.

There was some great phase play from everyone on the pitch, with forwards and backs rucking and mauling with commitment and passion and never letting Beckenham settle into their game plan.

Old Dunstonians kept up almost continual pressure on the Beckenham defensive line and it was only a matter of time until the first points were scored.

Alex Tyson duly obliged by crashing through to open the score and a debut try from Lan Kroeger gave ODs a 10-0 interval advantage.

The second half was similar to the first in intensity levels and commitment. The bad weather was a factor in making it more of a forward’s game, with large numbers of scrums.

OD Ladies had the measure of the Beckenham pack, winning some against the head and restricting Beckenham’s options from set piece play.

However, the scoreline does not reflect Beckenham’s effort in defence, with more than a few try scoring opportunities for the OD Ladies being stopped by great defensive work on and over the Beckenham try line.

Nevertheless, the OD Ladies weren’t going to be denied more points and three tries were scored in the second half.

Tyson got her second of the match, Louise Freds going over the line following some patient phase play and a final well worked scrummage move ending in Louise Landers making it two tries in as many games.

Fred also added two conversions.

Singling players out following such a tremendous team effort from both the starting XV and the subs was not easy.

After much discussion, forward of the match was awarded to hooker Anna Watson and back of the match going to Catherine Dempsey.

OD Ladies will be looking to make it two wins on the trot on Sunday with a trip to Footscray Ladies.
