Vigo 45-11 Sheppey

VIGO made what should have been a straightforward task against bottom of the table Sheppey a little more difficult than they should, but still managed to score seven tries to move up the table.

Two Jamie Caton tries in the first 10 minutes, both converted by Pat Norton, gave Vigo a firm foundation, but a combative approach by the islanders saw Vigo get dragged into a messy encounter.

Pete King booted over a penalty to cut Vigo’s lead, before a push over try by David Dunn, again converted by Norton, helped restore their dominance.

Another penalty by King and a try from Vigo’s Dan Couchman completed the first half scoring.

Sheppey began the second half camped in Vigo’s territory for long periods before the villagers managed to spring Caton free for his hat-trick.

Norton knocked over the conversion.

The game then exploded as the referee lost patience with some of Sheppey’s tactics and yellow carded one of their players.

In the protests which followed, intemperate words must have been uttered and Sheppey’s excellent stand off was shown a red card.

Obviously angry, Sheppey tore into Vigo and scored a try through Michael Lamb.

However, Vigo regained their composure with a Jim Moore try, converted by Norton, and a gift for Stuart Spiers on the stroke of full-time to complete the scoring.
