Matt Winn-Smith and Martin Asp are safe and well after taking part in the Original Mountain Marathon in Borrowdale.
The two day event has made national headlines after flooding and treacherous conditions have led to some competitors becoming stranded on the mountain.
Speaking exclusively to Newsshopper this morning, Martin Asp said that him, Matt Winn-Smith and their partners are safe and well after a 10 hour sleep in a bed and breakfast.
"The wind whipped up to enormous speeds as the rain came down and we had to make a decision whether we could go further."
After deciding to go no further, both Martin and Matt were transported by Jeep to nearby Keswick yesterday where they managed to rest.
"We're all here enjoying a rest and some food now, but there are some people out there in serious conditions and it is not a joking matter."
With conditions as bad and flooding waste high in some parts of the area, race organisers have cancelled the event, while a rescue operation is under way to transport people from the area.
